1. Choose a short section of text that you want to expand. If you can’t decide which one to start with, choose a line from the end of scene two or beginning of scene three.
  2. Then, break the sentence into parts and expand each part with more details.


The SENTENCE:  

He ran to school 

HE

Tossing a too small baseball cap over his his mess of hair, Jose glanced in the mirror and frowned. He was already late. This would have to do. 


RAN 

He stepped out the front door hoping to see his friend Jerry waiting in his new Corolla, but it was late.  Jerry had already left for school.

 

So Jose pulled his book bag straps forward and launched onto the sidewalk.


He ran past the yelling crossing guard without so much as a nod and nearly tripped on one of the kids from Lincoln Elementary.

Jose sighed in relief as he spotted the red-bricked building through the trees.
